Construction of Olympic venue 'ready to begin' - 03-07-2008 - 15:58
Construction of Olympic venue 'ready to begin' It has been announced that construction on the Aquatics Centre for the 2012 Olympics is to start ahead of schedule, despite claims in a recent report.

A BBC London report claimed that concerns had been raised about the venue's roof, which it said was considered "too complicated to build".

However, the Olympic Delivery Authority (ODA) has said materials are currently being tested and work is ready to begin, which may create a large number of construction jobs.

John Nicholson, the ODA Aquatics Centre Project Sponsor, said the plans for the build are "on track".

"The innovative building structure design is finalised and the contractor is on site and ready to start construction ahead of schedule this month," he added.

A number of construction jobs were recently created as the foundations began to be laid for the first of more than 30 bridges which will connect parts of the Olympic Park.
