Construction jobs threatened by building activity low - 02-07-2008 - 15:58
Construction jobs threatened by building activity low Construction jobs are being threatened by the fastest fall in building activity in 13 years, it has been revealed.

The Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (Rics) has said that construction levels have not been this low since the first quarter of 2005, according to the Shropshire Star.

People in construction jobs currently feel more pessimistic about their future workloads than at any other time since the survey began.

Rics senior economist, David Stubbs, commented: "Up until now we have been seeing growth in the construction industry slowing down; however these figures show that workloads are actually falling in almost every sector."

He explained this is due to "the lack of availability of debt finances and the fall in prices, which is taking its toll on developers".

Skills council ConstructionSkills recently advised the construction industry could face a skills shortage because of the number of ageing people employed in construction jobs.
