Construction jobs created in Scottish town - 14-05-2008 - 16:39
Construction jobs created in Scottish town Renfrewshire Council has agreed a £100,000 deal which should create around 50 construction jobs in Paisley.

Construction, engineering and waste management firm Barr Ltd has been given permission to build a new £10 million civil engineering headquarters in the town, reports the Paisley Daily Express.

The new office complex is set to replace temporary facilities at an existing site, securing local employment and offering construction jobs.

Councillor Allan Noon, convener of Renfrewshire's general management and finance board, said the deal would boost employment opportunities and result in "massive investment".

He continued: "Regenerating Paisley is one of the council's most important goals and increased investment and employment by companies like Barr Ltd are an important source of income for the local economy."

The announcement of the construction jobs will come as a boost after it emerged mainstream construction has been hit by a slowdown in the first quarter of the year.

Work in public-sector has remained active but private housing and industrial activity has reduced as a result of the current economic climate, Green Building Press reported.
